Record-Easter-Egg in the European Municipality (EUropaGEMeinde) Deutschlandsberg
Students of 25 EU-Nations Designed This Piece of Art with a Height of 33 Feet

All of Europe joins Deutschlandsberg in celebrating Easter this year. Students from 25 EU-countries have designed Europe's largest easter egg, which was then built by the Styrian artist Franz Loibner. Measuring 33 feet in height, the giant egg is a symbol for connecting peoples - for the coexistence of 25 EU-countries. Within the framework of an EUropaGEMeinde-Day organized by the EU-project EUGEM, the municipality of Deutschlandsberg has commenced its role as EU-information provider.
Many people came to witness the unveiling of the easter egg: Hundreds of onlookers gathered on the main square. Three Members of the European Parliament were guests of honor: Styrians Jörg Leichtfried and Reinhard Rack as well as Karin Resetarits from Burgenland. Other guests included student delegations from the new EU-countries Slovakia and Slovenia, as well as one from the Netherlands and delegations of the schools who had designed the easter egg. A school from Deutschlandsberg took on the role of the Austrian representative.
After the unveiling and the benediction, a wide range of entertainment topped off the event: Gymnasts from Deutschlandsberg, an Easter-Bunny race for children and a public discussion about youth in Europe. A large Styrian buffet offered culinary specialties and in the evening, a ray of light from the tip of the easter egg showed onlookers from afar that on the main square of Deutschlandsberg, a transregional, transethnical event was taking place.
