Talking Oscars 2021: Insights, Reflections, Dialogue

This event was organized by the Austro-American Society for Styria and the Land Steiermark, A9 - Referat für Europa und Internationales, Büro für AuslandssteirerInnen. In the beginning it contains a message by our state representative Landesrat Christopher Drexler.

Two days before the 93rd Academy Awards took place on April 23, 2021 we hosted experts, who shared their thoughts and expectations on the Awards and in general the world of movies at this discussion on April 21, 2021.

The impact that the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic as well as the (global) struggle for social justice and equality had on the media industry was used as a launchpad for getting insights into the workings of Tinseltown from a panel of speakers who worked in, reported on and/or studied the Hollywood dream factory.

Our panel discussion featured the following speakers:

• Barbara Gasser ('Auslandssteirerin' and journalist and member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association)
• James Forsher (Seattle-based filmmaker and film scholar)
• Simon Maierhofer (Student with an interest in film and media)
