The Styrian economy, which is driven by innovation and the synergetic collaboration between universities and companies, earns every other euro from exporting goods and services. Therefore, Styria constantly aims to strengthen and extend its international relations on both academic and economic levels. In this context, the Western Balkans are an essential partner to Styria - not only due to the geographic proximity, but also in line with the traditionally close economic, social and cultural relations between the two regions. Moreover, the Western Balkans show strong potential in competences that will be particularly relevant in the future, such as the field of digitalisation. At the same time, they are driving the commercialisation of innovative ideas by promoting the cooperation between science and research, on the one hand, and the economy, on the other.

What can Styria and the Western Balkans learn from each other with regard to the transformation of innovative ideas into marketable products and services? How does the interregional exchange of ideas on an academic and economic level work? Where are the interfaces for future cooperation?
